Sisters and brothers of the Christian church in Myanmar: the global Anabaptist-Mennonite church is praying for you.
We hear your accounts of military forces torturing and killing peaceful protesters, raiding houses and destroying property. We see that a democratically elected government has been displaced. We know that COVID-19 has caused suffering and death, that you now face increased food and fuel costs at a time of high unemployment.
Kyrie eleison, Lord have mercy!
“Out of the depths I cry to you, O Lord. Lord, hear my voice!” (Psalm 130).
Fellow believers, as you await deliverance from the depths, Anabaptist-Mennonite churches around the world join in protest against violence suffered by Christians, Rohingya Muslims and other groups targeted by the military in your country. We call on our governments to use all diplomatic means to end this injustice.
God grant you strength to follow the way of Jesus, “wise as serpents and gentle as doves” (Matthew 10:16).
The peace of Christ be with you!
J. Nelson Kraybill, President
Mennonite World Conference
